Re-enrollment of Telugu Student in their Andhra Pradesh
A Telugu boy name Rajesh studied 8th in Andhra Pradesh and
discontinued his school studies since the mother displaced to
Thiruporur Block for employment purpose at the construction sites.
In our survey we found the boy Rajesh and enrolled in the RDT Telugu
School at Egatttur. For the academic year 2008-09 we found a Free
Hostel by name “Happy Children’s Home” located at Dhaskuppam,
Chittur District at the edge of Andhra Pradesh near Uthukottai. At
present he is studying in Zilla Perished High School, Dhaskuppam.
RDT is rendering all the educational support to continue his studies
in Telugu medium.
Hemoglobin Camp for Adolescent Girls
On 12th September 2008, in Kelambakkam ICDS centre, the Hemoglobin
Camp was organized for the benefit of the Adolescent Girls involving
in Construction work. RDT informed this message to all the Telugu
hutments and motivated the Adolescent Girls to participate in the
camp. There were 43 Telugu Girls participated and undergone the
Hemoglobin Test. In this programme 12 girls were identified with
anemic problem and recommended for Iron Tablets. The Anganwadi
Workers distribute the Iron Tablets to the anemic girls for three
months. This may be the first time that the migrant adolescent girls
received health support from the government through the ICDS
Programme.
Dental Camp
We have conducted a dental camp on 23.10.2007 and 30.10.2007 at Egattur and Navalur schools respectively. This camp was conducted
especially for the Telugu school students. Along with Tamil
students, the Navalur government middle school students were also
benefited through this dental camp. We have invited the dental
specialists from the Venkateshwara Medical College and Hospital,
Thalambur. In the Egattur dental camp, 177 students were benefited
through this free treatment, out of which 22 students were
identified and referred to the hospital for the further treatment.
In Navalur dental camp 22 students were benefited and out of which 7
students were referred to the hospital for the further treatment. (

Eye Camp
During the PTA meeting the parents of the Telugu Children raised
that they are being affected with visual problem with the dust of
the construction materials like cement, sand rusts etc. Immediately
RDT approached Mrs. Geetha, Trade Unionist for the Construction
Workers to arrange eye camp for the migrated construction workers at
Thiruporur.On 20-08-2008, the eye camp was organized in
colloboration with Shankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital, Chennai, NSS
Volunteers from Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Thiruporur and Federation for
Tamil Nadu Un-organised Workers Union jointly conducted the Eye Camp
for the Construction Workers at the Community Centre, Thiruporur.
From Shankara Nethralaya Doctors Team with all equipments
participated in the camp. The NSS volunteers helped the camp to go
in order without distraction. RDT took the role of announcement and
distribution of handbills to the sites and brought the Telugu people
for the eye camp. The Vice President Mr. Ravi arranged the Community
Hall on free of rent for the camp purpose. Altogether 71 (40 male and 31 female) Telugu Migrant workers
participated in the eye camp. Out of these 71 cases 40 cased were
screened for cataract surgery. At the first instance 20 members were
invited for surgery on 21st August 2008. The rest of the 20 cases
will be going for surgery soon. RDT suggested conducting the Eye
Camp periodically in different villages for the benefit of the
Telugu and Tamil families.
Special Report of Polio Vacination Camp
Tamilnadu government has announced a special scheme of pulse polio
vaccination
camp on 6th & 10th of January 2008 for the children. As
per the announcement, our Kanchipuram district Medical
administration RDT organized a pulse polio vaccination camp on 6th
January 2008.RDT requested the Kanchipuram District Medical Officer, to extend
pulse polio vaccination to the children those who are studying in
our special school for Telugu migrated children and the young babies
and small children in the Telugu residential areas of our working
villages. It was accepted by the district Medical administration and
they asked us to make arrangement for this camp. We have made
arrangements for this polio vaccination camp on 5th January. On 6th
morning. All our staff went to Kelambakkam Primary Health Centre and
joint with the polio vaccine team and we went to all our 6 schools
and the surrounding Telugu people residences. The Medical team have
provided the pulse polio drops to the children. This camp was
jointly conducted with the Kelambakkam Primary Health Centre in the
following villages.

The
polio team warmly extended their cooperation to providing the
vaccination to the migrated Telugu children in this camp. RDT took
response for food, travel and other hospitalities to the polio
vaccination team and other medical officers. Indeed, our school van
was very much useful for the easy and timely transportation for the
vaccination team to the migrated Telugu people’s residential area
during the pulse polio vaccination camp. We extend our heart full
thanks to the medical team for their good cooperation.
Human Rights Day and Rally
The human rights day and a rally were organized by RDT on Saturday
10.12.07.As part of the awareness programmes RDT has conducting the
human rights awareness programme in every year. On the basis of the
constant efforts of RDT jointly with other human rights movements,
NGOs, women’s movements and NSS students, we have conducted the
world human rights day programme at Government Higher Secondary
School in Thiruporur.
The SHGs members, human rights movements, representatives of NGOs,
trade unions, unorganized workers, and teachers, journalists lawyers
and school students were took effective participation in this
programme. Mr. Anandaraj presided over this meeting. Mr. T. K.
Elumalai welcomed the gathering. The headmistress of the Thiruporur
Higher Secondary School delivered the special address on “Human
Rights and the Community”. Dr. Santhanam, from the humanist movement
delivered a special speech.
He quoted various important historical facts related to human rights
movements. The president of the Ambedkar Janasakthi Movement Mr.
A.D.Visvanathan flagged off the rally. The rally was started from
the school and went through the important streets of Thiruporur and
end at the Illalur koot road.
The participants raised slogans related to human rights and raised
their voice against the illegal and the violences. Mr. Venkatesan,
President of Echangadu village panchayat and Mr. Visvanathan were
spoke in the meeting at the end of this programme. More than 300
peoples were participated. The message about the human rights and
the movements were reached and touched the heats of more than 5000
people. Tea and snacks were distributed during the rally. RDT Asst.
